SPATRA at EUSPA AI Week

Artificial intelligence is becoming a central tool for the European space downstream sector. EUSPA has been supporting a growing group of projects that apply AI to extract more value from satellite data, improve performance, and create practical services for different markets. EUSPA AI Week is the moment when these results are brought together and presented to the wider community.

From 19 to 23 January, the virtual event will showcase more than a dozen EUSPA supported initiatives. Each project will present how it uses AI in combination with European space capabilities to support applications in areas such as mobility, environmental monitoring, navigation, municipal services, and crisis response.

The programme will feature demonstrations and short presentations that show how research is being translated into operational tools. Several projects focus on using AI to strengthen environmental insights, such as forest monitoring and protection. Others work on improving the resilience and accuracy of satellite navigation by combining AI and advanced data processing. There are also solutions aimed at improving mobility services and detecting risks in transport networks.

This direction reflects EUSPA’s wider goal of helping European space data become a practical resource for industry, public services, and everyday life. By backing AI enabled downstream activities, the agency aims to support new applications and strengthen innovation in the EU space ecosystem.

SPATRA fits naturally into this context. The project uses satellite and geospatial data to improve understanding of road and rail conditions, with the aim of supporting safer and more efficient transport. AI helps process large datasets, detect anomalies earlier, and support decision making for infrastructure operators. Sharing these results at EUSPA AI Week provides an opportunity to connect with projects working on similar challenges in mobility and infrastructure.

What to expect

  • A full week of live online presentations, with each project giving a short overview followed by Q&A.

  • Insights from projects working in environment, mobility, GNSS, municipal services, and crisis response, showing the range of current AI and space applications.

  • Opportunities to explore synergies, potential collaborations, and new directions for space driven and AI enabled services in Europe.

  • A space for the EU space downstream community to exchange ideas and experiences, as highlighted by EUSPA’s Head of Market Development and Innovation.

Anyone interested in transport, infrastructure, environmental monitoring, urban planning, technology development, or public administration will find EUSPA AI Week a valuable opportunity to follow how AI and space data are shaping new applications and services across Europe.

More information about the programme and sessions will be available soon. Stay tuned for upcoming details from EUSPA. For the official announcement, visit the event page.
