University of Nis (UNI) Department: Faculty of Mechanical Engineering
The University of Niš (UNI) (www.ni.ac.rs) is a medium-sized, mature and well-developed academic community, comprising 14 faculties. UNI presently has about 26000 students at all levels of studies. UNI has significant experience in international research and innovation projects such as FP6, FP7, H2020 and Horizon Europe.
The core of UNI SPATRA research group comes from Faculty of Mechanical Engineering and consists of 10+ researchers from two departments: Department for Mechatronics and Control and Department for Machine Design, Development and Engineering. One of the main research areas of the UNI Machine Design, Development and Engineering group and Transportation and Logistics group are Railways systems and one of the main research areas of Mechatronics and Control group are Robotics and Detection systems.
Role in the SPATRA Project
UNI (University of Niš) will participate in SPATRA with the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering railway and robotics research & innovation group. Within projects H2020 SMART and SMART2, UNI researchers built expertise related to robotics and autonomous systems for railways. UNI has closely cooperated with Serbian Railway and Serbian Railway Infrastructure. Through this cooperation, UNI gained expertise in conducting safety regulations approval procedures for the field tests in railway environment, as well as in organising the field tests in operational environment. In SPATRA, UNI will provide direct contact to Serbian Railway Infrastructure.
